The solution to these problems lies in reducing the input of nutrients. But which nutrient is the most critical? The answer is:

Upper level Math students compare two engines in the same car: hybrid-electric and internal combustion. They investigate how much it costs to gas both engines and then compare the costs of the car. They then determine how long it would take to pay off the difference in price between the two cars based on fuel savings. Finally the students look at carbon dioxide production between the two cars and make ethical decisions factoring in cost savings, length of pay-back time, and reduction in carbon emissions and decide which car is really worth it.
